Problems & Solutions
Great sales conversations aren't about your features. They are about the problem you fix. Doers Movement helps you name those problems, track how real they are, and connect them to what you sell.
A Problem is a customer pain you solve
Each problem matures through a lifecycle. As you talk to more prospects, you watch it climb:
| Stage | What it means |
|---|---|
| Articulated | You've named the pain yourself. It's a hunch. |
| Recognized | Prospects mention it when you raise it. |
| Owned | Prospects bring it up themselves, unprompted. The strongest signal. |
| Bought | A closed deal was about fixing exactly this. |
A problem can also be marked invalidated (turns out nobody really cares) or discontinued (you've stopped chasing it). Both are valuable: knowing what doesn't resonate sharpens your focus.
Problems connect to your ICPs and personas
A single pain isn't felt the same way by everyone:
- To your ICPs: how central the problem is to that kind of company: core, secondary, or edge case.
- To your personas: how sharply that specific role feels it, and the exact words they use to describe it. (The language a CFO uses for a problem is rarely the language an engineer uses, and capturing both makes your outreach land.)
A Solution is what you offer to fix a Problem
You describe what you provide, then link each solution to the problems it addresses by how well it matches. This keeps your story straight: every solution earns its place by solving a real, named pain.
Recording why a deal closed
When you win, you can record why they bought: which problem actually drove the decision. That note does two things: it builds a library of real buying reasons you can repeat, and it nudges that problem toward the bought stage.
Problems are how the product learns what truly resonates. Watch them mature from "articulated" to "owned" as you talk to more prospects: that climb is the clearest sign you're building something people actually want.
