Automatic AI work
Your AI Agents do some work without being asked. They research the companies and people that fit, they bring that research up to date before they write, and they look for the right people at a company you've qualified. These settings let you decide how much of that happens on its own.
They apply to your whole team, so everyone's leads are handled the same way.
Where to find it
Open your Team settings and scroll to Automatic AI work. Only a team Admin can change these settings.
You can also just ask your main AI Agent: "stop researching automatically", or "keep company research for 30 days". It tells you what the change means for your team.
Research automatically after qualification
What you get: every company and person that fits is researched straight away, so there's something real to say before you write the first message.
When to turn it off: you qualify a lot of leads and only want research on the few you'll actually contact. With it off, nothing is researched until you ask — use the Research button on a company or contact, or ask your AI Agent.
With this off, a first message is written without research unless you research the person first. Messages land better with research behind them.
Refresh research before writing a message
Research goes out of date: people change roles, companies raise money, priorities move. With this on, your AI Agent brings older research up to date before it writes, so a message is never built on last quarter's news.
When to turn it off: you'd rather have messages written on the research you already have. Writing a message is never held up either way.
Both research settings feed the estimate beside your credits of how many more companies you can reach. Turning automatic research off raises it straight away. Refreshing is counted once you have recent refreshes of your own, so from then on turning it off raises it too. See What your credits mean in companies and people.
How long research stays fresh
Two numbers decide when research counts as out of date — one for companies and one for people. Each can be anything from 1 to 365 days, and both start at 14.
- Companies change slowly, so a longer window for company research is usually safe.
- A person's role and what they're talking about move faster, so keep that window shorter.
A longer window means fewer refreshes. These numbers only matter while Refresh research before writing a message is on.
Find the right people at qualified companies
When a company qualifies, your AI Agent looks for the people there who match your personas and adds them as new contacts. On by default.
When to turn it off: you'd rather choose yourself which companies are worth finding people at.
If automatic research is off, people are found as soon as the company qualifies, rather than after research.
What these settings never limit
Anything you start always runs: a button you click, a batch you select, a request you make to your AI Agent. These settings only decide what happens on its own.
Autopilot's nightly credit budget
This section also holds Autopilot nightly credit budget: how many credits autopilot may use each night to prepare new accounts. Spread it evenly over the month (the default), set a fixed number a night, or choose no limit. See How much autopilot spends each night.
